All student athletes who are high school seniors or in college may apply. The only requirement? You must be involved with a sport in your school or community. All sports are eligible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scholarship is an essay-based scholarship meaning that you need to write an essay to win the scholarship.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How Much Is the BigSun Scholarship?\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Winners of the BigSun Scholarship receive $500.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This might seem small in comparison to scholarships that award students thousands of dollars. But, you\u2019d be making a mistake to skip over small scholarships.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smaller scholarships get less traffic and therefore, your chances of winning are higher. If you win a few small scholarships, they can add up to an attractive financial aid package.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How to Apply for the BigSun Scholarship?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is an easy one. All you need to do is write an essay and send it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The essay should be 500-1,000 words. In the essay, you must answer the following questions:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How did your participation in sports during high school influence you?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have sports influenced your career goals?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have sports influenced how you relate to your family?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may send your essay to: <\/span><a href=\"mailto:athleticawards@bigsunathletics.com\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">athleticawards@bigsunathletics.com<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In your essay, be sure to include your name and the school you are attending.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What Is the Deadline for the BigSun Scholarship?\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The deadline for the scholarship is June 19, 2020. The winner receives notification within two weeks of the deadline. The name of the winner is also posted on the website.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Tips on Winning the BigSun Scholarship\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Winning the BigSun Scholarship has nothing to do with high grades and test scores. While academic success is important for college admission and many scholarships, for the BigSun Scholarship it isn\u2019t.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this scholarship, all emphasis is placed on your essay. Did the sport you play provide an escape for you from hectic family life at home? Does the sport you play bring you closer with a family member? Has the sport you play led you to want a career in sports broadcasting? These are all topics you can include in your essay.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make your essay personal! There is only one unique \u2018you\u2019 out there. Make the reader feel like they are in your shoes by sharing personal experiences that you\u2019ve had in life.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Final Thoughts<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don\u2019t need to be the best athlete or at the top of your class to win the BigSun Scholarship!
