Many are looking to get a college education. Unfortunately, college <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/find-scholarships\/the-cost-of-tuition-across-the-united-states\/\">costs<\/a> are way beyond the reach of what they can afford.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, many states deny them access to in-state tuition. Among those states are Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia. States like California, New Mexico, and Texas allow DACA students to pay in-state-<a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/find-scholarships\/the-cost-of-tuition-across-the-united-states\/\">tuition<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In both cases, the costs of a college education are burdensome. Many universities and organizations want to help undocumented students succeed.\u00a0 They award DACA scholarships to help students get a college education.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How Can a DACA Student Pay for College<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DACA students aren\u2019t eligible to receive any form of <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/pay-college-dont-qualify-federal-aid\/\">federal financial aid<\/a>. Federal financial aid only awards students who are citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though they can\u2019t receive federal financial aid, DACA students can get state financial aid. States decide their own policies about DACA students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some states are more generous than others. States like New York and New Mexico offer in-state tuition benefits to DACA students. To receive the benefits, students must attend high school in the state for more than three years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DACA students in New York can apply to the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/how-to-apply-to-the-excelsior-scholarship\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excelsior Scholarship<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This free-tuition program allows students to attend CUNY and SUNY schools tuition-free.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students in California can file the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/california-dream-act\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">California Dream Act<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The act helps undocumented students receive certain types of financial aid. This includes <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/scholarships\/private-school-scholarships\/\">private scholarships<\/a> and state financial aid. It also includes university <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/find-scholarships\/difference-scholarships-grants-loans\/\">grants<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/find-scholarships\/scholarships-for-community-college-students\/\">community college<\/a> fee waivers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DACA students should look into universities which allow them to pay in-state tuition. Private colleges also sometimes have special funds for undocumented students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DACA students can also apply for scholarships for undocumented immigrants. There are all kinds of scholarships that can be won. There are ethnicity-based scholarships, scholarships depending on <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/college-life\/types-of-internships-for-your-college-major\/\">major<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/how-to-win-a-national-merit-scholarship\/\">merit scholarships<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Are DACA Students Eligible for Pell Grants?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/everything-pell-grants\/\">Pell Grants<\/a> are a form of federal financial aid that helps students pay for college. Recipients must be U.S citizens or permanent residents. Therefore, DACA students aren\u2019t currently eligible for Pell Grants or any other form of federal aid.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Can DACA Students Apply for Scholarships?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DACA students looking to get a college education should apply for scholarships. There are many scholarships which aim to help DACA students. There are also scholarships which don\u2019t require U.S citizenship. DACA students should always read the fine print of scholarships to check.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5721\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/daria-nepriakhina-i5iIhHSAtp4-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"DACA Scholarships\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>DACA Scholarships<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are a list of a few scholarships that DACA students can apply to:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedream.us\/scholarships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Dream.US Scholarship<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the biggest scholarship for DACA students. There are two different scholarships. The U.S national scholarship awards first-time college students and community college graduates. Students can get as much as $14,500 for an associate&#8217;s degree and $29,000 for a bachelor\u2019s degree.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second scholarship is the Opportunity Scholarship. Students who can&#8217;t receive in-state tuition or attend their state colleges are eligible. They can get up to $80,000 for tuition, meals and campus housing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/createrealimpact.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Create Real Impact Scholarship<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Create Real Impact Scholarship is a scholarship contest. Applicants must create an original solution to solve reckless driving. DACA students may apply. Students may win $1,500.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/seg.org\/Scholarships\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Society of Exploration Geophysicists<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SEG awards between $500 to $10,000 every year to students who want to study geophysics in college. Applicants must have high <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/scholarships\/how-to-get-a-scholarship-without-good-grades\/\">grades<\/a> and be planning to go to college next year. They do not need U.S citizenship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/davisputter.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Davis Putter Scholarship Fund<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This fund awards need-based grants to students studying and working towards justice. Students can get up to $15,000. U.S citizenship isn\u2019t required.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beccascloset.org\/scholarships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Becca\u2019s Closet Scholarship<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Becca\u2019s Closet awards several scholarships to DACA students. To win, students must be involved with <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/how-many-community-service-hours-do-you-need-for-scholarships\/\">community service<\/a> in high school. They can win $1,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latinoscholarshipfund.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Latino Scholarship Fund<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Latino students living in the Danbury area of Connecticut may apply. DACA students are eligible. Around 20 students win a $1,000 award every year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbhem.org\/loans-scholarships\/scholarships\/list-of-scholarships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ministry as a Career Scholarships<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a total of 17 scholarships that DACA students may apply to. They must be active members of the United Methodist Church for at least 1 year and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. They also must have plans to pursue a degree at an accredited university.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5722\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/rich-smith-MvmpjcYC8dw-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"DACA Scholarships\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cofem.org\/scholarships-becas\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mexican-American Dream Scholarship<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mexican-American Dream Scholarship awards undocumented students. Applicants must be full-time students pursuing their bachelor\u2019s or associate\u2019s degree. They must be attending school in one of several California counties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsf.net\/scholarship\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hispanic Scholarship Fund<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The HSF Scholarship awards students of <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/guides\/scholarships-for-hispanic-students\/\">Hispanic<\/a> heritage with scholarships. Applicants may be <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/guides\/scholarships-for-high-school-seniors\/\">high school seniors<\/a>, undergraduate or graduate students. Students may receive between $500-$5,000. DACA students are eligible.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Final Thoughts<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DACA students deserve a college degree like any other student. If you are an undocumented immigrant, do not give up on your dreams.
