The scholarship awards <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/13-scholarships-for-high-school-juniors-and-sooner\/\">high school students<\/a> in the state of Georgia who plan to pursue <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/the-least-and-most-popular-majors-infographics\/attachment\/map_most-popular-bachelors-major\/\">bachelor<\/a>\u2019s degrees. Students must pursue a degree at a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gafutures.org\/media\/187935\/hope-scholarship-eligible-institutions.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HOPE eligible postsecondary institution<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located in Georgia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To date, the scholarship program has funded more than $3 billion to over 900,000 students. The program is funded by lottery-ticket revenues in Georgia.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Hope Scholarship Requirements<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The HOPE Scholarship is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/find-scholarships\/merit-scholarship\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">merit-based scholarship<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This means that it awards students who have a strong academic background.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a few ways for students to become a HOPE scholar. Students can become a HOPE scholar while still in high school or become a HOPE scholar while in college.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To get the HOPE Scholarship, students must meet the following requirements. Failing to meet one of the requirements can make you ineligible for the scholarship. It can also cause you to lose the scholarship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The requirements for the scholarship are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be a graduate from a <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/guides\/scholarships-for-high-school-seniors\/\">high school<\/a> in Georgia state.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have a minimum high school <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/guides\/whats-the-difference-between-weighted-and-unweighted-gpa\/\">GPA<\/a> of 3.0.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be a legal resident of Georgia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA throughout college to keep the scholarship.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be enrolled in a <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/guides\/difference-between-college-and-university\/\">college or university<\/a> in Georgia.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be a U.S. citizen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not owe a refund on a student <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/universities-best-financial-aid-packages\/\">financial aid program<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Register for selected service (male students).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not have a bachelor&#8217;s degree or higher.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meet academic rigor requirements. Students must complete a certain number of academically rigorous courses. They can find the list of eligible courses on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gafutures.org\/media\/188054\/rigor-list-august-2019-print-ready-rv10232019.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Academic Rigor Course List.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>How Much Does the HOPE Scholarship Cover?\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The HOPE scholarship awards students around 81% of their <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/life-hacks\/tuition-fee\/\">tuition<\/a> for 15 hours. In total, it covers up to 127 credit hours. The scholarship cannot exceed the total cost of your tuition for the semester. A student has up to 7 years to receive payments for the scholarship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How to Apply\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5701\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/brooke-cagle-g1Kr4Ozfoac-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"HOPE Scholarship \" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students who are attending a public college or university may apply for the scholarship two different ways:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">File the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/fafsa-basics\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FAFSA\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complete the online <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.gsfc.org\/gsfa\/gsfapps_index_ng.cfm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Georgia Student Finance Application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (GSFAPPS) or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gafutures.org\/media\/31365\/2016-gsfapps.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">printable paper GSFAPPS application.<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You should plan on completing the GSFAPPS even if you also complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/guides\/complete-guide-on-how-to-answer-fafsa-questions\/\">FAFSA<\/a>. It\u2019s good to have your application on file.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students must file their application before the end of the school term to receive payment for that school term.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep in mind that the college you are attending may have additional requirements. You might have to fill out their financial aid form. Contact your college\u2019s financial aid department to receive more information.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students planning to attend a private college or university must complete the HOPE\/TEG application.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Scholarship Deadline\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students must submit the application up until the last day of the semester in which they\u2019re seeking the HOPE Scholarship. The Office of Student Financial Aid has determined the following deadlines for applications:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Summer semester: July 17\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fall Semester: November 17\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spring Semester: April 15<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>What States Have the Hope Scholarship<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The HOPE Scholarship awards students in Georgia with scholarship money to attend a HOPE eligible school in Georgia. This scholarship awards students who have a 3.7 HOPE GPA (based on core courses) and a 1200 on a single administration of the SAT or a 26 on the ACT. Scholarship winners must maintain a minimum 3.3 college cumulative GPA.
