If so, there are many scholarships available to you. This is especially helpful when you have a great financial need. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jkcf.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offers several scholarships for students with financial need. Since 2006, the Foundation has awarded $175 million in scholarships to almost 2,300 high school and college students. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The foundation offers several scholarships for students from 8th grade to graduate school. We are going to focus on the Cooke College Scholarship Program. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The Cooke College Scholarship Program<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a prestigious undergraduate scholarship program. It awards scholarships to high achieving high school seniors who have financial need. Winners attend the nation\u2019s best four-year colleges and universities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Winners can receive up to $40,000 per year. The award amount is based on individual need and cost of tuition as well as other scholarships the student may receive. The money can go towards tuition, living expenses, books, and other required fees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program also helps winners plan for college and the opportunity to network with the Cooke scholar community.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Eligibility<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3362\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/mimi-thian-737001-unsplash.png\" alt=\"how to apply\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" \/>High school senior graduating in the spring <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plans to enroll in a four-year college in the fall <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GPA of at least 3.5 <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Standardized test scores of at least a 1200 on the SAT Total Score or above a 26 on the ACT Composite Score.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students with a financial need- students must have a family income up to $95,000. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>How to apply<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students must apply through the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commonapp.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Common App<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There are questions about the school they attend, their grades, activities and honors. There are also questions on college plans and goals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students must submit three recommendation letters through the Common App. The letters must come from a school counselor and two teachers. One must be an 11th-grade teacher in a core academic subject and one must be a teacher who has worked with the student in the last four years.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get advice on everything that has to do with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/ask-write-letter-recommendation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">letters of recommendation.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will need to share their financial information. This includes the last three years of their family\u2019s Adjusted Gross Income.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3363\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/rawpixel-633847-unsplash.png\" alt=\"calendar\" width=\"250\" height=\"176\" \/>When Is the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Due?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The application deadline is in November. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>When Will the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Winners Be Announced?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Semifinalists are notified in January. Finalists are notified In April. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Timeline of the application process<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">September 2018 \u2013 The College Scholars Program application opens on the Common App<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">November 2018 \u2013 The completed application is due. This includes the Common App general questions and all required supporting documents. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">December 2018 \u2013 March 2019 \u2013 The scholarship committee reviews applications <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">April 2019 \u2013 Winning students are notified<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Tips on winning the scholarship <\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get involved in something you\u2019re passionate about, whether it\u2019s a hobby or volunteer work<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3365\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ariel-besagar-497034-unsplash.png\" alt=\"win\" width=\"273\" height=\"153\" \/>Begin the application early. You want to leave yourself a lot of time to edit your work and have other people check it. Have them check your grammar and stylistic errors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recommendation letters &#8211; Rather than asking a teacher to write you a letter, ask them to meet. Explain what you would like them to get across in the letter. If they don\u2019t know you well enough, tell them about yourself. It\u2019s important the letter shows your character and how you worked through challenges. Give your teacher examples instead of having them write a generic letter.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Think outside the box when <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/apply-for-scholarships\/common-scholarship-essay-questions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">answering questions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Make yourself stand out from the other high achieving students. Share a unique story or experience. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>The Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another scholarship program worth mentioning is the Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program. This gives scholarships to top community college students to transfer to a four-year college. The applicant must have financial need.
