But, 80% of 4th-grade children from low-income families are reading below proficient levels. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipfund.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children\u2019s Scholarship Fund<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is hoping to break this cycle. It awards low-income children scholarships for private school. All families deserve to choose the best setting for their child\u2019s education. The fund wants to make this possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fund started in 1998. Back then there was a high demand among poorer families for alternatives to public schools. The fund answered this demand. It gives low-income parents the option to send their kids to private school. They can do this even if it means paying some of the tuition themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why Does Private School Matter?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students at private schools score higher on standardized tests. They are also more likely to graduate high school than public school students. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3328\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/neonbrand-426918-unsplash.png\" alt=\"school\" width=\"306\" height=\"190\" \/>Eighth-grade students who go to private school have a better chance at succeeding in college. They are twice as likely to finish their bachelor\u2019s degree or higher by their mid-twenties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2012, a study looked at the impact of scholarships on African-American students in New York. They found that if they got scholarships to go to private school from kindergarten, they were 24% more likely to go to college. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Low-income children who go to private school are almost <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/pubs2002\/2002013.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">four times as likely<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to attend college.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 1998, the fund has awarded $789 million in scholarships to 174,000 needy children. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are currently more than 25,700 students in Kindergarten to 8th grade who receive scholarships from the fund. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Steps to Apply<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipfund.org\/apply\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CSF partner program <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">near you. If there aren\u2019t any in your area, find other <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipfund.org\/apply\/other-sources-of-tuition-assistance\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tuition assistance programs <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in your state. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check with the CSF program about new scholarships and the requirements. Visit the program\u2019s website, email, or call to find out. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find out where you can pick up an application. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complete the application according to the instructions and return it to the program. You usually have to show your federal income tax forms and other financial information. For children older than Kindergarten, you need to send in a current public school report card. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3330\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/rawpixel-741658-unsplash.png\" alt=\"Funds\" width=\"298\" height=\"199\" \/>The scholarship amount depends on a few things. It considers the family\u2019s income, household size, and the school\u2019s tuition cost. Scholarships do not cover the entire tuition. The average scholarship amount is around $2,215.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Families need to pay the rest of the school\u2019s tuition. The scholarship fund expects them to pay for at least 25 percent of their children\u2019s tuition. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A lottery chooses the winners. Once a family is in the program, up to three children can receive scholarships. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of high demand, not all children who apply get a scholarship. If you don\u2019t win a scholarship, there are other <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipfund.org\/apply\/other-sources-of-tuition-assistance\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">programs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you can apply to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3333\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarshipowl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/michael-longmire-689531-unsplash.png\" alt=\"funds\" width=\"328\" height=\"218\" \/>The Children\u2019s Scholarship Fund wants to help all children succeed in life. So, they hope to expand educational opportunities for low-income children. These children usually don\u2019t have the option of going to private school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The results say it all; 92% of the students who receive CSF scholarships graduate high school on time, and 90% enroll in college. CSF helps students afford the cost of tuition at the private school of their choice. Everyone deserves a choice in their education, regardless of their income.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to the fund, thousands of low-income children can go to the private school of their family\u2019s choice.
